Introduction:
Professional behavior is one of the requirements for performing the proper duties of nurses and desirable social behaviors and tendencies for the sake of has an important role in choosing the nursing profession and professional performance. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between desirable social tendencies and professional behavior of nurses in educational hospitals affiliated to Shahrekord University of Science.
Methods & Materials:
The present study is a cross-sectional study. 269 nurses of hospitals affiliated to Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences were selected by using convenient sampling method in 2018. Data were collected using two standard nurses' professional behavior questionnaire and desirable prosocial tendencies (Carlo et al. 2003). Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistical tests (Pearson correlation) with SPSS software ver. 24.
Results:
The results showed that mean ± SD of nurses 'prosocial tendencies was (3.72 ± 72) and mean score of nurses' professional behavior was (3.82 ± 72). The result of Pearson's correlation test showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between the mean score of nurses 'prosocial tendencies and nurses' professional behavior (r = 0.393, and p<0.001).
Conclusion:
In view of the importance of social behaviors and the tendencies of these behaviors on the professional behavior of the nurses, the interventions are essential in order to improve the desirable social tendencies in the nurses. It is suggested that interventions such as workshops on concepts such as empathy, compassion and kind of friendship as the infrastructure of desirable social trends in order to improve the desirable social tendencies in the questions.
