Introduction:
Burnout in the high-stress profession of nursing has many physical and psychological effects that affect the quality of nursing services and the productivity of the organization and cause many ethical challenges in the work environment. Many researches have been conducted in this field, which have tested various interventions, including sports activities. Meanwhile, some studies have emphasized the effectiveness of yoga and aerobics. The current study was conducted with the aim of comparing the effect of yoga and aerobic exercise program on nurses' burnout.
Methods & Materails:
This research is a three-group, randomized, single-blind clinical trial that was designed at Jahrom University of Medical Sciences. The research samples included 81 rotating shift female nurses, with more than 2 years of clinical experience, who were randomly assigned to three yoga, aerobic, and control groups. The yoga and aerobics program was implemented in two sports clubs three days a week. The Maslach burnout questionnaire was completed in three stages before the intervention, immediately after the intervention and one month after the intervention by the nurses participating in the study. Questionnaire information was examined and analyzed using SPSS 21 software and statistical tests of analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis, analysis of variance with repeated measures and Friedman.
Discussion:
This clinical trial compared the effect of yoga and aerobic exercise program on nurses' burnout, which evidence may be provided for the implementation of creating programs in the field of reducing burnout in nurses, and while developing the verification of one of the exercise methods discussed, it can improve burnout in nurses and ultimately improve patient care.
