Introduction: Caregivers of patients with hematologic malignancies require empowerment and support from healthcare personnel. Therefore, the present study will be conducted to investigate the effect of education based on the family empowerment model on the care burden and quality of life of caregivers of patients with blood cancer.
Method and Materials: The present study employs a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach and a control group. The research population consists of 63 patients with leukemia who were referred to the blood clinic of Firoozgar Educational and Medical Center, affiliated with Iran University of Medical Sciences, in 2024. After selecting research units using the method of reaching and based on the inclusion criteria, the samples are non-randomly divided into two groups: a control group and an intervention group. In the intervention group, educational sessions based on the four steps of the family empowerment model (threat assessment, promoting self-efficacy, promoting self-esteem through educational participation, and evaluation) will be conducted over seven 90-minute sessions, twice a week, in group settings. The research instruments include demographic questionnaires, the Cancer Patient Quality of Life Inventory (CQOLC), and the Novak & Guest Care Burden Inventory, which will be completed before the intervention and one month after the intervention. Data will be analyzed using SPSS software, employing descriptive statistics (frequency, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (independent t-test, paired t-test, Chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test) at a significance level of 0.05%.
Conclusion: The results of this study may provide evidence for implementing supportive programs in cancer patient care, highlighting the importance of nurses' educational roles in clinical settings and contributing to the health of caregivers, ultimately improving the quality of care provided to patients.
