English

Introduction: Marital conflicts affect the mental, physical, and family health of nurses. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of group training based on acceptance and commitment on cognitive dissonance and marital conflicts mediated by incompatible schemas of female nurses in Sanandaj.
Method: The research method was semi-experimental and in the form of a pre-test-post-test design and a 1-month follow-up with a control group. The target population in this study was all female nurses working in hospitals in Sanandaj in 1403. From this population, 36 people were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two groups of 18 people, which was reduced to 15 people during the intervention. To collect data, Harmon Jones Arousal and Cognitive Dissonance Reduction Questionnaire, Binary Marital Conflict Questionnaire and Young Schema Questionnaire Short Form were used, and choice theory training sessions were implemented in 8 group sessions in the intervention group, and no intervention was performed for the control group. Covariance analysis test was used with SPSS-25 software to analyze the data.
Findings: The results showed that acceptance and commitment training had an effect on cognitive dissonance (f = 35.53; df = 1.23; sig = 0.01) and its effect size was 0.426, as well as acceptance and commitment training on marital conflicts (f = 57.08; df = 1.55; sig = 0.01) and its effect size was 0.543, and this effect continued until follow-up.
Conclusion: According to the findings, group training based on acceptance and commitment therapy has the potential to reduce cognitive dissonance and marital conflicts in female nurses in Sanandaj.
