Introduction:
Universities are responsible to meet the students’ demands during their studies. Supervisors’ appropriate performance would lead students to a proper grip on educational goals. With respect to the essential role of counseling and supervision, this study aimed at determining the status of supervisors’ performance in students’ views in Lorestan University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and Methods:
In this descriptive and cross-sectional study 680 sophomore students (in all fields) were studied by census. Data gathering tool consisted of a two-part questionnaire, with 79% reliability, scored according to the Ministry of Health instructions. Scores revealed supervisors’ performance in three levels. Findings were analyzed by statistical tests including frequency test and λ2 in SPSS.
Results:
77.9% of persons were females aged 19-35 years old. Educational problems (59.2%) were the most frequent reasons for seeking assistance. 37.9% of students evaluated supervisors’ performance as inappropriate, 44.38% as moderate, and 17.73% as appropriate.
Conclusion:
Results did not show a good level of satisfaction of supervisors’ performances. While holding positive attitudes toward educational counseling and supervision, it is, therefore, recommended to evaluate supervisors’ performances and outcomes in order to develop organized educational programs to upgrade academic institutional ideals.
