Nurses represent the single largest group of health care providers in health system and have a profound impact on health care quality. Their adherence to ethical principles will have a crucial impact on nursing practices and the quality of care. The present study aims to determine the administrative factors associated with professional ethics in nursing practices.
Methods and methods:
This descriptive cross-sectional study used census to study 120 nurses employed in hospitals affiliated to Jahrom University of Medical Sciences. Data collection tool consisted of a 22-item researcher-made questionnaire whose reliability and validity had been tested and approved. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 and relevant tests were conducted at the significance level of 0.05.
Results:
Nurses The most important administrative factors from nurses’ viewpoint were respectively supervisors’ interpersonal communication with nurses (%59.2), using experienced instructors for teaching ethical and legal issues in nursing education and running continuing education programs (%51.7), and organizing appropriate work shifts for the maintenance of optimal working conditions (%44.2). No significant difference was observed between demographic factors and administrative factors for advancing professional ethics (p=0.1).
Conclusion:
The most significant factors for advancing professional ethics in nurses’ views were determined. It is, thus, recommended that nurse administrators undertake periodic evaluations of factors that influence professional ethics, create the right ground for promoting professional ethics and surmount obstacles in its way.
