Abstract
Introduction:
Moral turmoil is considered as effective variable in nurses’ performance. Moreover, job-demand and job-control can be influenced by moral turmoil. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between job demand-control and moral chaos.
Materials and Methods:
The present study was a cross-sectional study carried out through correlation. The studied statistical population consisted of all nurses in hospitals in the city of Tabriz in 2014 and through stratified random sampling, 145 subjects were selected. For data collection, Corli moral turmoil questionnaire and Occupational demand control questionnaire of Wall, Jackson was Molarky were used. Data were analyzed step by step using correlation coefficient methods and multiple regression analysis.
Results:
Based on the findings, the mean and standard deviation of variables of frequency of moral turmoil 2.99 and 0.60, respectively and the intensity of moral turmoil was 2.65 and 0.77, job demand was 4.93 and 0.97 and job control was 3.42 and 0.86. Moreover, the correlation coefficient between moral turmoil and job demands was r = 0.304 and the correlation coefficient between moral turmoil and job control was r =-0.368. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that components of moral turmoil (frequency and severity) can control and predict job demand.
Conclusion:
Moral turmoil had a significant positive correlation with job demands and a significant negative correlation with job control. Therefore, the high degree of moral turmoil is associated with loss of job control and increase in job demand. As a result, to decrease demand for employment and improve job quality, we can enhance the moral status of nurses through training of nursing ethics.
