Abstract:
Introduction:
Patients’ safety is one of the very important components of health care quality. Assessment of safety culture in an institution or organization of health-care, in addition to identifying the problems associated with it, will improve the safety culture. Thus, the present study was carried out with the aim of evaluating with safety culture in hospitals affiliated with Jahrom University of medical sciences.
Materials and Methods:
This study is a cross-sectional one. Hospital Survey on patient safety culture questionnaire (HSOPSC) was used to collected data from all staff groups in hospitals of Jahrom University of Medical Sciences (n=367). This questionnaire consists of thirteen parts and one question is allocated to determine the general condition of patients’ safety. After answering the questions, SPSS16 software was used for data analysis.
Results:
In investigating different aspects of safety culture, the results show that only two aspects, improving organizational learning continuously (65%) and teamwork within hospital units (60.9%) achieved positive score higher than 50% so that these two aspects are acceptable. 63 participants (15.2%) described the level of safety culture as excellent or very good.
Conclusion:
Based on the results obtained in the present study, only two aspects were in an acceptable condition. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the safety culture in other areas which requires planning, many interventions and extra effort.
