Introduction:

Organizational commitment is one of the most important nursing factors in promoting health and care organizations that are under the influence behavioral characteristics. The aim of this study was to explore the correlation between organizational commitment and sensitivity of ethics for nurses in the West of Golestan province.

Materials and Methods:

This descriptive study was a cross-sectional one conducted in 2014. The study covered 288 nurses working in public centers affiliated to Golestan University of Medical Sciences in the West of the province. Quota sampling was carried out in the hospitals of Kordkoy, Turkman harbor and Gaz harbor. The used tools were a standard questionnaire of professional ethics sensitivity for nurses in decision-making and a standard questionnaire of Paterson's job commitment. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16 software, descriptive statistics and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests, Spearman correlation coefficient and multiple regression at the significant level of p >0.05.

Result:

 229 (79.5%) people of the study participants were women. The average moral sensitivity score of the study was 63.04 (16.79 = IQR) (Interquartile Range) and the average organizational commitment was 50.26 (13=IQR) which were equal to the average ethical sensitivity and higher than average organizational commitment. Spearman correlation test results showed a significant difference (p= 0.001, r=0.192) between the scores of organizational commitment and the average of professional ethics sensitivity of nurses. To anticipate the impact of different aspects of professional ethics sensitivity on organizational commitment, the most effective predictors were related to the field of professional knowledge (p=0.000, Beta=0.33) and applying ethical concepts in decision-making (p=0.280, Beta = 0.14), respectively.

Conclusion:

Improving the professional knowledge of nurses and promoting the ethical quality of decisions in dealing with the situation the nurses confront causes a more proper and more logical function in their profession. In order to develop these factors, the development of moral and administrative education based on clinic is of high importance.
