Abstract:
Introduction:
Due to the importance of providing spiritual care to patients and the appropriateness of any education program, it is essential to know the perspective of nursing and operating room students as the main service providers. Thus, the present study carried out with the aim of evaluating the attitude to spirituality and spiritual care in nursing and operating room students.
Materials and Methods:
This study is a cross-sectional study. The study population included 140 nursing and operating room students of Health and Paramedical College in Ferdows city in the second semester of the Academic Year 2013-2014 who were selected by census method. Finally, 106 of them, who met inclusion criteria, were studied as the study samples. Research instruments included a Standard attitude questionnaire to spirituality and spiritual care validated by content validity and its reliability was measured by Cronbach's alpha confirmed by R = 0/82. Then, the questionnaires were given to the students. After collecting data, research data were analyzed using SPSS version 18 and descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, and frequency).
Results:
The results showed that the mean score of attitude to spirituality and spiritual care was 55/92 ± 8/46 and scores the majority of students (81/15%) was between 32 to 62, which estimated in moderate level.
Conclusion:
Given the importance of spiritual care and the average level of spiritual care in students in this study, it is essential to establish the concept of spirituality and spiritual care along with other interventions to improve medical and nursing skills.
