Abstract:
Introduction:
Students’ evaluation of their clinical skills allows them to carry out their duties with proper quality. This study was designed and conducted with the aim of senior nursing students’ self-assessment of their ability in clinical skills in Medical Sciences Faculty of Nishapur in 2016.
Materials and Methods:
In this analytical, cross-sectional study, 60 undergraduate nursing students of Medical Sciences Faculty of Nishapur that were selected by the census sampling method participated. For data collection, a two-part questionnaire including demographic characteristics and a 190-item evaluation was used. The validity of the questionnaire was determined through face and content validity with the help of 10 professors and the reliability of this tool was measured 0.94, by calculating Cronbach's alpha coefficient (CVR: 83/0 CVI: 96/0). Data analysis was done using SPSS 16 software and descriptive and analytical statistics methods.
Results
From the students’ viewpoint, clinical skills in 66.7 percent were reported excellent, in 10 percent good and in 3.23 percent average. Overall mean scores of clinical skills was 347/57 ± 67/30 out of the total score of 570, which was good. The highest level of skill was reported in the field of drug-therapy and work with medical equipment and the lowest level of skill was reported in cares before, during and after diagnostic procedures.
Conclusion:
Most of the students assess their physical abilities as good. According to the results, it can be said that self-assessment, as a powerful tool to determine the student's weaknesses, should be of more attention.
