Introduction: The need for privacy is one of of the most important concepts in nursing and ethics of health care and treatment. This study aimed to compare the various aspects of privacy of female patients in women’s medical & surgical wards.
Methods: This research is a descriptive - comparative cross-sectional study in which 100 people two groups of female patients in wards of internal medicine, surgery in shahreza ,s hospitals were selected by convenience sampling. The data collecting tool was consist of two parts: demographic information and questionnaire of privacy included 47 questions on various aspects of privacy: Physical privacy (12 items), mental privacy (14 items), social privacy (8 items) and the privacy of information (13). For data analysis, descriptive statistics and variance analysis was performed using SPSS version 15.
Results: The results showed that between respecting privacy female patients in medical and surgical wards there is no significant difference ( P – value > 0.05) and both ward are equally in respecting of patient privacy. Also. There was no statistically significant association of respecting privacy and demographic variables.( P – value >0.05)
Conclusion: In order to improve respecting female patient privacy, it is needed to managers of hospitals and authorities take particular attention to this issue and try to provide the necessary facilities and remove barriers for respecting patien,s privacy.Also, the systematic training of nursing students and staff about of privacy should be considered.
