Introduction: Professional nursing values are the guideline for the actions necessary for the nursing profession and are considered as the basis for decision-making in professional nursing practice. Due to limited studies in this field, this study aimed to investigate the level of compliance with professional values in clinical nurses in Kerman.
Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 260 nurses working in hospitals affiliated to Kerman University of Medical Sciences were selected by stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a two-part questionnaire including socio-demographic characteristics and the standardized scale of professional values of Shank and Weiss nursing skills with an appropriate validity and reliability of 0.92. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and analytical (Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis) by SPSS software version 19.
Results: The mean score of nurses' professional norms was 102.77 ± 16.64 and the highest mean score in each dimension of care was (4.21 ± 0.48), justice (4.13 ± 1.37) trust (4.21 ± 0.82), professionalization (3.80 ± 0.95) and pragmatism (3.52 ± 0.70). There was a significant relationship between work area and nurses' service status with respect to professional values, but no significant relationship was found with other variables (meaningful level, p <0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the results, nurses' status is relatively favorable with respect to professional values, so the necessary measures to internalize and promote all these values are essential.
