Introduction: Self-control, as the foundation of individual beliefs, plays a key role in various areas of human life,
especially the progress and academic performance of students. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between self-control and academic performance of medical interns in Shahid Beheshti Hospital of Kashan University of Medical Sciences in 2019.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed with the participation of 100 medical clerkships and available sampling. Data collection tool was a self-regulatory questionnaire of Tangney model and
to evaluate academic performance, the average of clerkships was examined. Data were analyzed using t-test and Pearson correlation test and SPSS16 statistical software. (P≤0.05).
Results: There was a significant relationship between self-control and its components and the academic performance of clerkships. (p=0.020) Among female clerkships, a significant relationship between self-control and academic performance was reported. (p=0.003) Also, in single clerkships, there is a significant relationship between total self-control score and academic performance, and with increasing self-control score, their academic performance rate also increases significantly. (P=0.021)
Conclusion: The results showed that with increasing the total score of self-control and its components in medical
clerkships, the score of academic performance also increases significantly. Since the academic achievement of medical students is related to public health, it is desirable that universities provide training to increase students' self-control.
