Introduction: Ethical performance is one of the main components in providing holistic and high-quality care to clients.
Thus, given the importance of the issue of nursing ethics, the present study was conducted with the aim of comparing the job performances of nurses based on nursing ethics in intensive care and general care units.
Materials and Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional study. A total number of 160 nurses working in intensive care and general care units in selected hospitals of Isfahan were selected by a convenience sampling method. The research tool was a standard questionnaire used for measuring the job performance of nurses based on nursing ethics that its validity and reliability have been already confirmed. The collected data were analyzed at the level of 5% error using SPSS version 22 software and independent t-test and multivariate variance.
Results: The best job performance of nurses in the public sector was in the components of nurse and society, nurse and providing clinical services and the weakest performance was in the component of nurse, education and research. Among intensive care unit nurses, the best job performance of nurses was in the components of nurse and providing clinical services and the weakest performance was in the component of nurse and colleague. The mean score of nurses' job performance based on nursing ethics in intensive care units was higher (p<0.001).
Conclusion: Nurses' job performance based on nursing ethics was observed at a higher level in intensive care unit
nurses than in general care unit nurses. Therefore, it is recommended that public sector nurses become more familiar with the nursing codes of ethics.
