Investigating the effect of a patient-centered and family empowerment program on quality of life and quality of social communication in patients with colorectal cancer: Clinical trial study protocol

Introduction: Colorectal cancer patients often have inappropriate quality of life and quality of social communication. The current study was compiled with the aim of investigating the effect of the family and patient-centered empowerment program on the quality of life and the quality of social communication in patients with colorectal cancer.
Method: The present study was a controlled clinical trial type. The samples included 60 patients with colorectal cancer referred to the chemotherapy department of Peimanieh Jahrom Hospital. The participants were gradually randomly assigned to two control and test groups. Before the intervention, demographic information, quality of life and social communication questionnaires and one month after the intervention, quality of life and social communication questionnaires were completed by the patients. In addition to the usual care, the intervention group received the "Patient and Family Empowerment Program" during 8 sessions; SPSS version 21 software was also used to analyze the data.
Discussion: This study evaluated the effects of "family and patient -centered empowerment program" on the quality of social communication and the quality of life of patients with colorectal cancer. The evidence provides a strategy for the implementation of the family and patient -centered empowerment program provided by the researcher, which may improve the quality of social communication and the quality of life of patients with colorectal cancer.
