Abstract
ABSTRACT
Introdoction: The transformation and advancement of nursing education in Iran requires a comparative analysis of curricula and the utilization of successful international models and experiences. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to conduct a comparative evaluation of the master's degree curriculum in geriatric nursing between Iran and Kingston University in the United Kingdom.
Methods: This study is a comparative analysis and the required data were collected through the examination of documents published on the official websites of two universities in the year 2025. Relevant articles were retrieved using Persian keywords such as Gerontological Nursing, Master's Degree, Comparative Study, Curriculum, Kingston University and Iran, along with their English equivalents. The data were analyzed using Bereday’s comparative method in four stages: description, interpretation, juxtaposition and comparison.
Results: The Master’s program in Gerontological Nursing was established in Iran prior to the launch of a similar program at Kingston University in the United Kingdom and thus holds a longer history. The student admission process at Kingston University is based on diverse criteria, with a strong emphasis on the academic and professional qualifications of applicants. The educational vision of both institutions-Iran and Kingston-centers on the development of competent, skilled, and committed professionals in the field of care. In both universities, the Master’s program in Nursing is delivered in a full-time, on-campus format and its curriculum integrates both theoretical instruction and practical training.
Conclusion: Considering factors such as employing faculty members specialized in gerontology, providing sufficient clinical opportunities, adopting decentralized approaches, and applying multiple criteria for student admission can play a significant role in strengthening and enhancing the quality of the Master’s curriculum in geriatric nursing in Iran.
